How to Prepare for a Concrete Parking Lot Leveling Project

Leveling will help reduce the likelihood of slip-and-fall incidents, prevent premature failure and the need to fully replace slabs, restore the appearance of uneven areas, and drastically reduce downtime. Compared to a full replacement, concrete leveling takes very little time to complete, ranging from just a few hours to a day, depending on the size of the area needing to be leveled.

Detroit Concrete Leveling handles most of the required preparation work, but there are a few things to keep in mind when planning for this type of project.

Your Responsibilities

As the business owner, your primary duty is to sit back and let the professionals do the work. We coordinate scheduling to come at a time that’s most convenient for you and will cause the least disruption.

Your pre-leveling responsibilities include:

Alert Your Employees

Do this at least 1-2 weeks before the start of the project.

• Send a mass email alerting all employees. In your message, provide date, time/duration, and alternative parking locations.
• Ensure all department managers are aware of the project and can notify employees that don’t regularly check email.

Most leveling projects are completed in a few hours, so your employees should not be significantly impacted by our work.

Post Announcement on Social Media

Post three announcements; the first one should be posted a week before the project, the second 24 hours before the project, and a third on the day of.

Share this news only on relevant social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram (LinkedIn is unnecessary), as well as your Google Business Profile/listing. When you post your message, include the time and day it will start, expected duration, and where customers should be parking.

Post Signage

On the day of, we recommend hanging signs in your doorways to let people know what’s happening and to ensure customers know that you’re still open for business. A simple message like “Pardon our mess while we work to improve our parking lot” will work just fine.

Block Off Section That Needs Leveled

We always aim to schedule concrete leveling after business hours to minimize disruption, but if that’s not possible for whatever reason, or you have people at your business 24 hours a day, we will create a barrier with caution tape and traffic cones to let guests know to stay away from our workers and equipment.

Perform an Inspection

We perform an initial inspection before we even schedule the project to understand what hazards are present on the surface, whether small hairline cracks or failing caulk, to know what must be prepared before concrete leveling can happen. On the day of, we perform a second inspection to ensure no new problems have developed.

Clean & Sweep Surface

Surface preparation is critical to concrete leveling. Before we perform leveling, we repair any minor cracks. We’ll then sweep and clean the surface to ensure any leaves, dirt, oil stains, etc. are removed.

Coordinate With Local Utility Providers

Many parking lots will have underground utilities that need to be worked around, including catch basins, sewer lines, or even electrical lines for parking lot lights. If any of the sections (that need to be leveled) are in these areas, we’ll coordinate with your local utility provider to prevent damage and disruptions.
